You and I are in a similar place I think. I may be more enveloped in the pursuit of healthy living than you are, but I believe we share the same dream. We both like food, we both try to feel good and we both are confused by what it means to "eat right" "stay healthy" and "lose weight." I'm actually on a good path right now, STILL confused, but feeling good.
This year has been a big one for me in many ways. It became clear to me what my current goal in life is. It's to help people listen to their bodies. To be a part of a movement that will shift the way we view eating and what it means to lose weight and truly maintain a healthy life. It's also to respect the earth; we've only got one.
I've had some BIG visions and dreams for us.
I see a world where it's easy for my friends to choose healthy food for their kids with out being deceived by empty words like " natural" and "fresh." I see a world where my loved ones recognize their day-to-day ailments and they stop and think "what can I shift in my diet that may remedy this?" I dream of a place where corporations make choices that will be kind to the earth and our future generations. I see my best girl friends taking care of their basic needs by regularly asking the questions: am I enjoying this? am I feeling ok? what can I do to feel better? I see my immediate family spending its money on fresh organic food free of toxins, dyes and pesticides. I see family gatherings where we get together and talk less about the aches and pains that consume us but more about the options we are opening ourselves up to make those aches and pains go away. I see an education system that makes nutrition as important as history and science. I dream of the day when I walk into a doctor's office and he asks the question "how is your diet" and then is prepared to prescribe food along with medications to help me heal.
Big dreams they are, but I really want to believe that it's all very possible.
The gift that my last job has given me is the knowledge that we are all the same! We all have limits and strengths and glories. They are all so beautiful and ferocious. In our core we all want to feel good and do good. For ourselves, for the world around us no matter how big or small. Regardless of financial or physical background, we are all STRUGGLING to feel better. Some of us are filled with stress about this too. Stressed about feeling good. So stressed that it affects our digestion, our skin, hair, nervous system, our relationships- everything! We live in a reality where stress and sickness and obesity are the norm. We are in the middle of national health crisis, and I believe it's important to recognize this. After we recognize it and say it out LOUD, we must act and come together to find realistic ways to feel better, avoid stress and lose weight.
One of my greatest strenghts is that I truly like people. I prefer to approach life with kindness. Kindness in eating, living, loving, learning, sleeping, buying, building, destroying, celebrating and most of all thinking. Maybe it can all start there. Being kind.
Maybe we can all just start. Start to open our minds and hearts and get educated about dealing with this crisis. Come together so the struggle can become a joyful process.
Thank you for reading and for taking time to make your life grow - all it needs is a little of your kind attention.
